Match.com Takes the Waiting Out of Dating with the Launch of the New MatchMobile(TM)

Match.com, the company that made online dating a worldwide phenomenon, is once again changing the way people meet and find love with the launch of the new MatchMobile. Starting today, millions of Match.com members won't have to wait to hear from a potential date or mate. Members can receive free text alerts when someone winks or emails, and also search the entire Match.com relationship network, all from their cell phone. "With the new MatchMobile, we're letting people connect with their matches the same way they connect with their colleagues, friends and family -- instantly and through the convenience of a cell phone," said Thomas Enraght-Moony, CEO of Match.com. "With MatchMobile, we have changed the dating dynamics. We've taken away the waiting and wondering by giving members instant access to not only emails and winks, but also the entire Match.com network, whenever and wherever they are."

"Imagine what MatchMobile will do for the business traveler who's constantly on the go, waiting for a flight home," said Dr.

Online dating: A new niche for all

Online dating sites such as Match.com and eHarmony draw millions with a promise of replacing chance meetings on the office elevator with a targeted computer search for a soul mate. Now there's Prescription4Love.com, a dating Web site ''for people with special conditions.''
Launched in 2006, Prescription4Love was created by Ricky Durham in memory of his brother, James Keith Durham, who died in 2004 after a 15-year battle with Crohn's disease.
''He couldn't meet people,'' remembers Durham. ''He had a colostomy bag, so he didn't feel comfortable meeting people.'' Things might have been different, Durham believes, if his brother had been able to find somebody who shared - and understood - his illness. The Web site allows users to do just that by searching according to different conditions, such as AIDS, infertility and obesity.

Looking for love in all the wrong Web sites

While Internet schemes carried out overseas in Africa and Europe are nothing new, con artists are increasingly using online dating sites to recruit unwitting accomplices, the FBI said.

Not long ago, the prevalent scheme on the Internet involved luring people into fake business ventures. But the growth of dating Web sites such as Singles.net and Match.com has given criminals another way to carry out their schemes, said Cathy Sloan, an FBI spokeswoman.

"These scammers have to go with whatever (is) the flavor of the month," she said.

The FBI does not keep statistics on schemes involving online dating sites. But Romance- scam.com has 10,600 members who claim to be victims, said Barbara Sluppick, who started the site with a friend two years ago. In a survey by the site, 760 members reported losing more than $6 million in various schemes, she said.

Speed dating for the older single

Speed dating may be quick but it takes a lot of energy, writes Anna Wise.

IT STARTED badly: 14 women and seven men. Even a novice could tell the numbers were wrong. A few women approached the organiser and offered to leave but I hung back. I knew that if I left now, I would never return to this bar perched on a plateau overlooking the Yarra.

This was no casual dinner. I was at my first experience of speed dating and I was nervous. It didn't help that the numbers were lopsided in the traditional too-many-females-to-males-ratio that bedevils dating for the baby boomer generation.

Stampede over, I was greeted by Brenda, a tall, spiky-haired veteran and self-appointed host. Within two sips of our complimentary glasses of wine we were swapping smiles and accounts of our few attempts to meet men.
